MOORE HERITAGE STREET FESTIVAL OFFERS A

CULTURAL AFFAIR OF THE AFRICAN AMERICAN DIASPORA

 

The Moore Heritage Festival of the Arts & Humanities invites families to enjoy the Moore Heritage Street Festival, on March 8-9 at Moore Memorial, 2180 Freedom Avenue in Mims. Hours on Saturday are 11-6pm and Sunday, 2-6pm . All events are free to the public.

 

Families can visit an array of arts and crafts vendors, enjoy delicious food, and entertainment by local and national performers during the two-day street festival, held in conjunction with the Festival Arts and Humanities Education Sessions on the BCC-Titusville campus. The goal of the Moore Heritage Street Festival is to celebrate the life and civil rights work of Harry T. Moore, while continuing the preservation of African American culture and local heritage through the creation of a family, oriented atmosphere,” Festival Chairperson, Bill Gary said.”

 

 

Beginning Thursday, March 6th, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., guided tours of the civil rights museum located at the Moore Memorial Park, will be offered and continue throughout the festival.

 

 

The street fair starts on Saturday, with Main Stage entertainment throughout the day. Highlights for Saturday include Miami Stilt Dancers, a classic car show, Cocoa Alpha Omega Steppers, the Caribbean steel drum sounds of Ephraim Adams, and an afternoon jazz concert starting at 4:00 p.m . featuring the smooth saxophone sounds of the Phillip Martin Project of Washington , DC . Phillip Martin , an accomplished jazz artist has performed and worked with numerous jazz artists including Kirk Whalum, Kevin Toney, Sunnie Paxson, Sam Rivers and Christian Valenzuela. Phillip is a star in his own right and has been compared to the likes of Kim Waters, Najee and Gerald Albright as a premier sax man.

 

On Sunday, Street Festival brings to Center Stage a Gospel Youth Fest with the South Florida Bahia Youth Workshop, a praise dance showcase from area churches from Mims to Palm Bay , and an afternoon concert starting at 4:00 p.m. featuring Gospel recording artist, Cathy Clark of Palm Bay . Clark is a singer/psalmist and preacher of "The Gospel". She is President of cJc Ministries, Inc. She attends Truth Revealed Ministries in Palm Bay Florida under the tutelage of Pastor Merton and Sabrena Clark.

 

A new addition to Festival on Thursday, March 6 is a theatrical performance at 7pm at the Historical Cocoa Village Playhouse, in Cocoa . This year's - Evening with Evangeline Moore event , presents historian and actor Bob Devin Jones in a one-act play, “ America's First Civil Rights Martyr –Harry T. Moore ”. Admission is free.

 

The Black Tie Gala Dinner and Awards Banquet will be held on Friday, evening, March 7 beginning at 6:30 p.m. The affair will be at the Space Coast Convention Center , Cocoa Holiday Inn Express. The presentation of the Harry T. Moore Freedom Award for Community Service will be awarded to Dr. Maxwell C. King, educator and community activist. The Harry T. & Harriette V. Moore Cultural Complex, Inc., in partnership with the Brevard County Parks & Recreations Department, Brevard Community College – Titusville and Cocoa Campus, and RCP Limited, will celebrate “The Life and Work of Harry T. Moore” “Education-Building Bridges towards a Common Ground of Equality and Justice”, during the Fifth Annual Moore Heritage Festival of the Arts & Humanities, March 6-9, 2008 in Titusville , Cocoa, and Mims, Florida.
