MOORE HOME REPLICA CONSTRUCTION BEGINS
After more than two years of planning the construction of the Harry T. & Harriette V. Moore Family Home Replica has begun. The design of the home and landscape was completed by Architects In Association Rood & Zwick, Inc. a local firm located in Cocoa, FL.
The construction contract was awarded to Mercon Construction Company, Inc. of Longwood, FL. and is being managed by the Brevard County Department of Parks & Recreation under a subcontract agreement with the Moore Cultural Complex, Inc. Board of Directors.
Construction began on April 28 and has a contract performance period of six months. Funding for the home replica construction is provided by a grant from the Brevard County Board of Commissioners and sponsored, in part by a 2007 appropriation by the Florida Legislature and administered by the Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs.
When notified that construction had finally begun, Evangeline Moore, the Moores surviving daughter, expressed her delight and extreme pleasure with this event coming to pass at last. She noted "I am extremely please that the home I grew up in will now be rebuilt and the precious memories of my parents and home life will always be a part of the Moore Memorial Park".
The Moore Home Replica construction marks the first component of the Phase II development of the Moore Park. Additional components will include a Reflecting Pool, Meditation Garden, Event Gazebo, Civil Rights Heritage Walking Trail and finally a Community Pavilion with kitchen, outdoor restrooms, and stage.
