MIMS, Fla. -The groundbreaking ceremony for the Harry T. & Harriette V. Moore home replica  will be held Sunday, December 14 at 3:00 p.m. at the Harry T. & Harriette V. Moore Memorial Park, 2180 Freedom Avenue in Mims. The event is part of the Annual Harry T. & Harriette V. Moore Memorial service held each year by the Florida State Conference NAACP. This year the annual Grave Side service for the Moores will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the LaGrange Cemetery , 1575 Old Dixie Hwy , Titusville, FL . Immediately following will be the Groundbreaking Ceremony at the Moore Memorial Park, 2180 Freedom Ave, Mims .

The Harry T. & Harriette V. Moore Cultural Complex, Inc., the non-profit support organization for the park, is co-sponsoring the groundbreaking event along with Brevard County Parks & Recreation Dept. Ms. Evangeline Moore, the Moores surviving daughter will in attendance at the ceremony along with Florida State Senator Anthony "Tony" Hill of Jacksonville and former Florida State Representative Bob Allen of Titusville, both men were instrumental in helping to secure state funding for this project. Matching funding was provided by the Brevard County Board of Commissioners.

The Harry T. & Harriette V. Moore Memorial Park, location of the original Moore family home site, was purchased by Brevard County in 1994, and the Cultural Center was dedicated in April 2004. The park honors the legacy of the Moores, who were parents, educators, and leading local and national civil rights activists. Harry T. Moore organized the first Brevard County branch of the NAACP in 1934 and later organized more than 50 branches statewide. On Christmas night 1951,  the Moore 's twenty-fifth wedding anniversary, a bomb exploded under their Mims home fatally injuring Mr. and Mrs. Moore. Mr. Moore died on the way to the hospital and Mrs. Moore died January 3, 1952 , one day after the funeral for Mr. Moore. The park is dedicated to the commemoration of their lives, to promoting awareness of their contributions to the early civil rights movement, and to preserving African American history. The Cultural Center is a repository of Moore family artifacts and historical documents featuring strategic events beginning with the Emancipation Proclamation ending slavery in America .
