The annual Harry T. & Harriette V. Moore Heritage Festival of the Arts and Humanities will be held March 6-9, 2008. The event will occur at various venues in North Brevard County. The event will encompass four (4) days of awareness, appreciation, and celebration of the Moore's contributions to the civic rights movement, and other local contributors as well.

The event will begin on Thursday night with An Evening with Evangeline Moore at the Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse featuring a theatrical performance by Bob Devin Jones as Harry T. Moore and continue Friday through Saturday with educational programs, a street festival, entertainment, craft and food vendors, a car show and tours of the Moore Memorial Park and Museum. The street festival will conclude on Sunday afternoon with gospel music, food and craft vendors and museum tours. The festival's Moore Freedom Award as well as Student  Essay Awards will be presented at the annual Black-Tie Gala Banquet held on Friday night at the Holiday Inn Express in Cocoa, FL.

As one of Central Florida premier historical festivals, these events are designed to attract the attention and participation of families from all across the county and throughout the state. Families can visit a three-day outdoor street festival of arts and crafts vendors, cultural demostations, enjoy delicious food, be entertained by local and national performers and participate in engaging Arts & Humanities Education Sessions.

More than 50 years ago, Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore were pioneering advocates for voting rights, equal educational facilities, equal pay for black and white teachers and sought justice for victims of police brutality and mob lynchings. Both were tragically killed in the bombing of their home on Christmas night in 1951. No one has been officially charged with these murders.

The Moore Heritage Festival is presented by the Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore Cultural Complex, Inc., a 501(c)3 organization, in partnership with Brevard Community College and Brevard County Parks and Recreation Department. An updated listings of festival events will be posted on the Moore Heritage Festival website at www.harryharriettemoore.org/events as performers and activities are confirmed for 2008.
