Final preprations for the Grand Opening 04/8/04

The Seventh Annual Harry T & Harriette V. Moore Heritage Festival of the Arts and Humanities is scheduled for April 15-17, 2010. The festival events will be held at various venues in Brevard County. The festival will encompass (3) days of educational awareness, cultural celebration and heritage appreciation of the Moores civil rights legacy and contributions to the early civil rights movement and the contributors of others as well.

The events begin on Tuesday, April 13th. with “An Evening With Evangeline” featuring a dramatic performance at the Greater St. Paul Baptist Church, Cocoa. Thursday, April 15 will be the first Educational Symposium sessions at Brevard Community College-Titusville Campus and tours of the Moore Cultural Center and Home replica at the Moore Memorial Park, Mims. Friday, April 16th. continue the Educational Symposium sessions at Brevard Community College-Palm Bay Campus. Friday night is the Moore Festival Gala Banquet at the Holiday Inn - Viera(I-95 and Wickham Rd). Saturday, April 17th. concludes festival activities with the family-oriented Street Festival at the Moore Memorial Park, Mims where visitors can enjoy Arts/Crafts and Food vendors, a Change Your Health Fair, Children’s Play Village, Musical entertainment by local and regional recording artists along with local talented youth groups participating in the ever popular Youth Gospel Fest. The street festival is an all day event beginning at 9:00am with the Health Fair.

As one of Central Florida’s premier historical and cultural festivals, Moore Festival events are designed to attract the participation of families from across the county and throughout the state. Families can enjoy the lively outdoor street festival with its arts and crafts, enjoy delicious food and drink, watch cultural demonstrations, learn how to improve and have access to better health, let the children play in a wholesome settings and be entertained by talented performing groups.

More than forty years ago, Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore were pioneering advocates for voting rights, equal educational facilities, equal pay for black and white teachers and fought for justice for victims of police brutality and mob lynchings. Harry was killed and his wife Harriette mortally wounded when a bomb was set off under their home on Christmas night 1951, also their 25th. wedding anniversary. No one has ever been officially charged with their murder.

Board of Directors, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization in partnership with Brevard Community College and Brevard County Parks and Recreation Department.
