A Replica of The Moores' Home Keeps History Alive
Their house in Mims was bombed by KKK in 1951. A replica aims to keep the civil rights history alive
On Christmas night in 1951, on the couple's 25th wedding anniversary, members of the KKK planted a bomb under the home of Harry and Harriette Moore's home, directly below their bedroom. They both died as a result. Harry's mother and the couple's oldest daughter were asleep in their beds the night the house was bombed, but they survived.
Today, a replica of their home aims to keep the civil rights history alive. The museum invites thousands of guests from near and far to visit each year.
